Obituary for Patrick Harold Bent

Centennial, CO - Patrick Harold Bent, 74, passed away on June 8th after a brief illness. His loving family was at his side.

Born in 1943 in Brooklyn to the late Harold and Patricia Bent, Pat grew up in New York and New Jersey. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1962 and was stationed at 8th & I in Washington, D.C where he marched in the funeral procession for President John F. Kennedy. He was deployed to Vietnam from November 1965 - September 1966. Following his time in the service he worked as a delivery pilot and flight instructor before pursuing a career in finance and raising his family.

In 1968, Pat was introduced to his late wife, Averil, through his best friend. They were married for 34 years until her death. Pat was a devoted husband and tireless caregiver during Averil's final illness.

Pat resided in Budd Lake, New Jersey for nearly 40 years until he recently relocated to Centennial, Colorado to be closer to his youngest daughter and newest granddaughter.

Pat completed his bachelor's degree in economics at Saint Peter's University in Jersey City in 1970 and his M.B.A at Rutgers Business School in Newark in 1971. He became a Certified Public Accountant and earned multiple other certifications for financial planning and consultation in New Jersey. He practiced in the Mount Olive area for most of his career, where he owned a successful accounting firm with his brother, Kevin, until retiring last winter. Over the years he was an active member of the Mount Olive and Hackettstown Rotary Clubs, Mount Olive Area Chamber of Commerce, Musconetcong Lodge, and various other professional associations and service and networking organizations.

Pat will be best remembered for his gregariousness, fierce loyalty, generosity, and sense of humor. He took delight in babies, especially his granddaughters, and animals of all kinds, first and foremost his beloved canine companions. He had an avid interest in history, particularly military history, and current events. Most of all, Pat enjoyed spending time with his family and his many friends, including those he met at the Budd Lake Diner and a wonderful group of lifelong pals he had maintained contact with since grade school.

Pat is survived by his daughters: Kelly (Chris), Shelly (Eric) & Amanda (Ryan); granddaughters: Claudia, Lucy, Caroline & Myra; brothers: Kevin (Karen), Thomas (Alice) & Michael (Nancy); nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
